Liam Delap ‘would accept Everton switch’ as £30m transfer news emerges

David Moyes wants Liam Delap at Everton, and it looks as though there is a chance the 61-year-old could get his wish.

After inspiring an impressive turnaround at Goodison Park in such a short space of time, Moyes will be keen to kick on next season, especially as the Toffees make the move to Bramley-Moore Dock.

As a result, the Everton boss is expected to hold talks with the Friedkin Group as he targets ambitious signings on Merseyside.

One area of the squad which might need strengthening this summer is the striker position, with Dominic Calvert-Lewin likely to leave Everton.

And an encouraging update on a move for Delap has now emerged.

Everton ‘can beat Manchester United & Chelsea to Delap’

As reported by Alan Nixon via his Patreon (13 April), Moyes wants Delap at Everton.

The Toffees have funds for forwards and are willing to wait for their chance to sign the Ipswich striker.

Should the Tractor Boys be relegated from the Premier League – which now looks to be a forgone conclusion – Delap can leave Portman Road for £30million.

Chelsea and Manchester United are both also interested in the 22-year-old. However, ex-Goodison scout Bryan King – speaking exclusively to Goodison News – doesn’t see any reason why the Toffees can’t win the race for Delap’s signature.

“New manager, a new stadium next year,” King said.

“Things are looking up for Everton. Delap started his career in Manchester City, then went to Ipswich Town and proved he could play in the Premier League.

“I think Everton would be a good stepping stone for Delap. Why can’t they win the race? They’re a Premier League club, they’ve got a good manager, and they will be playing in a brand-new stadium next season.

“They’ve got a big support and will have an even bigger support next season. Therefore, why wouldn’t Delap go to Everton? I know they haven’t been getting the results in recent years, but they’re a big club.”

Everton can make a statement by signing Delap

As they move to Bramley-Moore Dock, Everton will no doubt be keen to make a statement signing.

Delap would certainly represent just that and would also be a big upgrade on the options Moyes currently has at his disposal. Therefore, if there is a possibility to get a deal done, the Friedkin Group need to make signing Delap a number one priority this summer.
