Keys cannot believe what he saw in Chelsea win v Everton – ‘Astounded’

Richard Keys couldn’t believe what he witnessed in Everton’s 1-0 loss to Chelsea on Saturday.

David Moyes made two changes to his starting line-up for the Stamford Bridge clash on Saturday (26 April) with Beto and Nathan Patterson replacing Armando Broja and James Tarkowski.

However, his side were frustrated on their latest trip to London as a Nicolas Jackson strike proved the difference between the teams.

Everton slammed after Jackson goal

The hosts took the lead through Jackson in the 27th minute as Beto gave the ball away in a dangerous area.

Keys was stunned by how easy it was for Enzo Maresca’s side to open the scoring and slammed Everton for their defending.

Speaking live on beIN SPORTS (26 April, 13:28pm), he said: “It’s a Sunday League goal.

“Honestly, even now I’m astounded at how simple that was for Chelsea.”

Moyes will want to see more from Everton

The contest meant very little for the Blues as they are already safe from relegation and cannot rise up the table much further.

However, if they are to do so next season, with Moyes aiming for European qualification, they need to be more aggressive in matches like this, especially given the fact that their season is done.

The Blues have little to play for.

They can afford to take risks and experiment ahead of the new campaign, which will come with a lot of excitement as they make the move to Bramley-Moore Dock and the Friedkin Group get ready to back the Scotsman in the summer transfer market.

The Blues were without Tarkowski, who has been ruled out for the rest of the season in a devastating blow but they should still have defended better for the goal, even with his absence.

If they had, they may have been able to secure an encouraging result and build momentum ahead of the impending new era.

There is still a chance to do so, with four games left and Moyes will be keen to finish the campaign with a flourish rather than a whimper.

Then it is a busy summer, with decisions to be made on several out-of-contract stars and new signings to be brought in to feature in the debut campaign at the new ground.
