Richard Keys reacts instantly to Chelsea v Everton controversy

Richard Keys has made his thoughts apparent after Chelsea took a one-goal lead into half-time against Everton on Saturday.

Things are not going to plan for Everton in the Premier League clash with Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on 26 April, as they trail 1-0.

The Toffees find themselves behind in the game after Nicolas Jackson put the hosts in front 27 minutes after kick-off, with a shot from outside the box.

David Moyes’ side, meanwhile, have struggled to test Robert Sanchez in Chelsea’s goal, failing to register a single shot on target in the first half.

Keys has say on Everton incident v Chelsea

However, Everton will feel hard done by after they were denied a penalty after Sanchez collided with Vitalii Mykolenko in the Chelsea box in the first half.

Both players required treatment after they clashed inside the penalty area around the 39-minute mark, with referee Chris Kavanagh awarding the hosts a free-kick.

Replays showed that the goalkeeper’s arm caught the Toffees’ left-back in the face, justifying claims for a penalty.

Keys is also of the view that Everton should have been awarded a penalty for the incident, instantly taking to social media to express his frustration.

The former Sky Sports commentator insisted that Sanchez was not in control of the situation by any means and should have been penalised as a result.

“That’s got to be a penalty”, Keys wrote on his personal X handle (26 April).

“The keeper did not have possession there – he’d already spilt the ball.”

Moyes on course for second consecutive defeat

Moyes appears to be determined to at least take a point at Stamford Bridge in a bid to avoid two consecutive defeats, something that has not happened since he took the reins at Goodison Park in January.

The Scot replaced Iliman Ndiaye with Carlos Alcaraz at half-time before making a triple substitution after the one-hour mark.

Beto is among those who have been taken off after failing to impress in the first half.

He will be hopeful that the four new players can give the Merseyside-based club a much-needed boost and at least draw them level against Enzo Maresca and Co.
