Everton goalkeeper makes honest admission as Goodison Park exit not ruled out

Everton have 13 players either out of contract or set to return to their parent clubs once the 2024-25 campaign concludes.

With Premier League relegation long out of the question, the Toffees can be forgive for already having one eye on the summer window.

Even if some of those loan deals are extended or made permanent, or if one of two out-of-contract players are persuaded to stay on, plenty of change is still expected.

Some of those players set to become free agents now have major decisions to make, with one of them sharing an honest admission on his future.

Asmir Begovic unsure of Everton future

Begovic, who has played second-fiddle to Jordan Pickford in goal once again this season, is one of those who is into the final weeks of his latest Everton contract.

The Bosnian has not featured for Everton this season, though he has been among the substitutes on 20 occasions.

Begovic very much knows what his role is in the squad, and that is what makes him a good option to have.

However, with his 38th birthday on the horizon, Begovic has hinted that he may well move on in the summer.

Asked for an update on his future on Sky Sports News (27 April, 12:41pm), Begovic said: “Personally, I’ve had a great time at Everton, with the fans, teammates, support staff – it’s a great place to work.

“In terms of what’s going to happen going forward, there’s conversations to be had now. We wanted to focus on securing safety.

“When you get older you have to make collective decisions – I have a family to think of now. So you pick the best option available when these options come along.

“Others, like Dominic [Calvert-Lewin], he’s coming off a big injury and just wants to get fit right now. Every player has their own situation.”

Everton players set to depart in 2025

Begovic is one of 13 players who could move on in the summer, with fellow goalkeeper Joao Virginia being another.

Seamus Coleman, Ashley Young, Idrissa Gueye, Michael Keane, Abdoulaye Doucoure and Calvert-Lewin are also out of contract.

Orel Mangala, Jesper Lindstrom, Jack Harrison, Carlos Alcaraz and Armando Broja are those who are only on loan, meanwhile.

While the loss of Begovic would hardly send shockwaves around Merseyside, it is clear that Everton have a hectic summer ahead.
