Joe Cole reveals surprising Dominic Calvert-Lewin update

Joe Cole has opened up about the future of Everton forward Dominic Calvert-Lewin in a surprising update.

The 28-year-old has been sidelined since the start of February with a hamstring injury, which is the latest in a string of problems that the striker has dealt with.

The England international hasn’t been able to find a consistent run without a fitness concern throughout his time at Goodison Park, which has become a growing concern for fans, pundits, and those within the club.

David Moyes hasn’t been able to rely upon him since returning to the Merseyside giants, and that has hurt his attacking options.

Cole reveals new Calvert-Lewin information

It has been unclear whether or not Calvert-Lewin would be fit enough to return before the end of the season, but Cole has provided some answers towards that question for Everton fans.

Speaking on TNT Sports (26 April), the former Chelsea player made a surprising reveal about the fitness of the Everton striker.

He said: “Talking to him on Wednesday, he looked happy, he said his body feels good, you know.

“He’s a fabulous player when he’s fit and he’s at it. He can be as good as [any] number nine around.”

While Cole obviously isn’t a medical professional, and was likely only going off the player’s word in the moment, with four games to go, there will be a belief that he’s going to play again before the season ends.

Everton have made a Calvert-Lewin decision

Even though Calvert-Lewin is pushing to return to the squad before the end of the season, that’s likely only going to be to say goodbye to the Everton faithful.

His contract is up at the end of the season, and all of the signs are currently pointing toward that deal not being renewed.

While Cole believes he can still be an effective target man, his injury issues throughout the last couple of years have been a significant problem, and with Moyes not being able to rely on him, it’s tough for the club to justify giving him a new deal.

He’s been a good servant to the Toffees and scored some important goals, but Calvert-Lewin’s fitness problems have caught up with him, and the Toffees now want to bring in a younger, and more reliable striker.

That is why the England star is expected to become a free agent in the summer, and given his age and goalscoring qualities, he might end up being a bargain for someone if he can stay it.
