Everton go for broke to sign Liam Delap as TFG ‘franchise player’ news emerges

David Moyes will be looking to revamp his Everton squad in the summer transfer window as the Blues look towards progression.

The Scotsman has been incredibly impressive since his return to Goodison Park in January, but with a new era set to get underway on Merseyside, there is still plenty of work to be done.

The Friedkin Group are expected to back the boss with financial limitations seemingly a thing of the past at Everton.

Nevertheless, the Blues will have to be shrewd in their business with a number of additions needed.

Everton set to fight for Liam Delap

One area where Everton need to look for reinforcements is at the top end of the pitch, with their goalscoring record this season fairly dismal.

The Toffees were not helped by an injury to Dominic Calvert-Lewin, although even prior to this, his numbers were low.

Armando Broja has also struggled with injury and the Blues are unlikely to look to extend his loan. Meanwhile, Beto has upped his form but still has not been entirely convincing either.

With Ipswich heading back to the Championship, Everton are prepared to be ambitious in their striker targets, wanting Liam Delap to be added to the ranks.

There is set to be competition for his services this summer, with several Premier League sides interested in his services.

What’s more, he doesn’t come cheap with a £30million release clause to pull him away from Suffolk.

According to the i Paper (30 April), Delap is being eyed as a “franchise player” at Everton amid The Friedkin Group’s new era and this is a feature that may be used to sell the move.

Everton have to push for Delap transfer

Although the competition is rife, the addition of Delap could be exactly what Everton need going into next season and it’s one they should certainly be pursuing.

Furthermore, the idea of being a franchise player and part of the new era could be a big selling point for the player who will no doubt be keen to keep his minutes up if he makes the move away from Ipswich Town.

The Toffees are showing strong signs of a more positive future and the striker would know that if he made the move to Bramley-Moore Dock, he would be guaranteed game time, continuing his development at a strong rate.

It may well to come down to the forward’s own priorities, but Everton are right to be ready to go all out for this one.
