Duncan Ferguson brought to tears live on BBC by Everton footage
Duncan Ferguson was brought to tears live on BBC after footage he saw ahead of Everton’s penultimate game at Goodison Park.
Everton host Ipswich Town at their famous old ground at 3pm Saturday (3 May) in what will be the final game at the venue in that traditional kick-off slot.
BBC’s Football Focus team were in attendance at Goodison Park a few hours ahead of the game and showed a touching montage during the show.

Ferguson emotional ahead of Goodison farewell
Everton favourite Ferguson was part of the coverage and admitted to being choked up by the footage.
In a clip shared via BBC Sport’s X account (3 May), Ferguson said: “It actually brought a tear to me eye that. Honestly, it was incredible.
“You look back at the history of the football club, some wonderful goals, wonderful experiences with the fans – it was emotional.”
Ferguson’s sentiments will be echoed by every Everton fan who also watched the clip, on what is set to be both an emotional day and indeed an emotional couple of weeks as supporters finally say goodbye.
Everton need to get the job done against Ipswich
Many are already – only half-jokingly – predicting a defeat against already-relegated Ipswich as it is simply that most Everton thing that can happen.
While that is true, David Moyes will know just what these final two games mean to supporters, especially against Ipswich with special pre-game plans already in place.
Opponent | Result |
Arsenal (H) | 1-1 D |
Nottingham Forest (A) | 0-1 W |
Manchester City (H) | 0-2 L |
Chelsea (A) | 1-0 L |
Supporters have been waiting for these final couple of fixtures for a long time now and they are finally here.
While Southampton will be the final visitors to Goodison Park on 18 May, this game against Ipswich is just as emotional.
It is now over to the players to put on a show and ensure supporters can give the famous ground the send-off it truly deserves.
