Paul Merson blown away by ‘Unbelievable’ incident in Everton v Ipswich

Everton drew 2-2 against Ipswich Town in the Premier League at Goodison Park on Saturday, with Paul Merson lost for words on Sky Sports.

Kieran McKenna’s team travelled to Merseyside on 3 May, with the Tractor Boys already relegated from the top flight after winning promotion almost a year earlier.

Beto opened the scoring at Goodison Park before Dwight McNeil doubled the hosts’ lead in the 35th minute with a brilliant strike.

An Ipswich player was the man of the moment in the opening 45 minutes, though, as Jordan Pickford was left scrambling, and George Hirst went on to equalise for the visitors in the second half.

Julio Enciso scores unbelievable goal in Everton v Ipswich

Julio Enciso scored an unbelievable goal for Ipswich against the Merseyside outfit, Merson says.

The Sky Sports pundit couldn’t believe what he saw the Brighton loanee do against the Toffees at Goodison Park.

Merson termed the 21-year-old’s strike a “dipper”, with Pickford arguably having no chance of keeping it out of the back of the net.

Speaking on Sky Sports News (3 May, 15:45), the ex-Arsenal attacker said: “Oh my, what a goal.

“This is unbelievable. [Enciso] gets the ball here about 35 yards out on the half turn. Beats one player, gets his head up, 35 yards out and hits it. Oh my. It hits the bar and goes in. It’s a dipper. An unbelievable shot. What a goal. And Pickford has dived full length and can’t save it.”

TFG have plans to make for Bramley-Moore Dock success

Moyes needs to be backed by The Friedkin Group (TFG) next summer, and plans should already be made to ensure the Scottish manager has a competitive team next season.

The former West Ham United boss has shown that he deserves to be given funds and try to get the Toffees up the league table.

Supporters will aspire to get into Europe soon, but that’ll require heavy investment from the American owners in the coming years.

Everton are interested in Liam Delap, and while there are other top teams in the race for the 22-year-old, TFG must convince him to move to Merseyside.

The Toffees need a new centre-forward next season as Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Armando Broja are set to leave soon, as things stand.

Beto scored a brilliant header against the Tractor Boys, but it was his first goal after eight games without finding the back of the net.

In the opening 45 minutes, Delap had a few heated moments with Jake O’Brien and Jarrad Branthwaite, but the two defenders will undoubtedly want the striker to join the Merseyside outfit next season.

What the future holds in L4 remains to be seen.
