Shearer blown away by ‘fantastic’ Everton MOTD footage in draw v Ipswich
David Moyes was left disappointed by Everton as his side threw away a two-goal lead to draw 2-2 with Ipswich Town on Saturday.
Goals from Beto and Dwight McNeil should have put the Toffees in a strong position to take control of the game.
However, Ipswich were able to get back into it before the first half had finished, before scoring an equaliser in the 79th minute of the game, which proved to be decisive.
Nevertheless, Moyes’ men did produce something in their performance that they can be proud of.

Alan Shearer highlights Everton success
Everton’s standards have risen significantly under the management of Moyes, although recent results have not been up to scratch.
Losses against Manchester City and Chelsea weren’t the end of the world for the Toffees, but they were seemingly unable to get out of the rut and dropping points against an already relegated side is not a good outcome.
Team | Possession | Shots | Shots on target |
Everton | 58% | 8 | 3 |
Ipswich | 42% | 12 | 5 |
Nevertheless, with nothing left to play for this season, the boss can certainly be using these games to test the quality of some players as he weighs up what the future holds for some in Blue.
One man who certainly showed his quality is McNeil, whose goal was an impressive strike from outside the box.
Alan Shearer was full of praise for the way his side set up the goal as he said live on Match of the Day (3 May, 54:00), “Ndiaye makes a really clever run, there, which then creates the space for McNeil to take the touch to turn and that’s a fantastic shot away with loads of bend on it.”

Moyes ready for summer with Everton
The season has ended in a lot nicer fashion than much of the campaign has been for Everton so far and therefore, while frustrating, many supporters will be thankful about where they are in the table.
Nevertheless, with nothing to play for at Goodison Park now, the boss is probably ready for the summer transfer window as he prepares for what will be a transformational summer.
The Blues will have to be measured in their summer business with The Friedkin Group wanting to set a sustainable future in motion.
However, there will be increased investment and the manager will have the opportunity to put his own stamp on the side with the hope of then aiming higher next season.
The Toffees have certainly shown they have strength in the team but additions are certainly needed for Everton to find long-term success.
