David Moyes ‘to replace James Tarkowski as Everton ready first summer signing’

Everton appear to have found the ideal replacement for James Tarkowski ahead of the summer transfer window.

The Toffees are gearing up for a busy summer transfer window, with 13 first-team players running out of their contracts at the end of the season.

Everton must also consider the futures of other contracted players, including Tarkowski, who turns 33 this year and is set to enter the final year of his deal.

Tarkowski has been a key player for the Merseyside-based club this season, having started in all but two of their 35 Premier League games so far.

However, age might be gradually catching up with the centre-back, as he is now set to miss the remainder of the season due to a hamstring injury.

Therefore, replacement plans appear to be in place for Tarkowski at Everton already.

The Premier League club are interested in signing Koni De Winter from Genoa, according to Mirko Di Natale.

The Italian journalist reported via his personal X handle on Wednesday (7 May) that the Goodison Park outfit have always liked the centre-back.

However, the 22-year-old has also attracted interest from West Ham United in England.

Meanwhile, Inter Milan are ‘gaining ground’ on their efforts to acquire the Belgium international’s services.

However, with Napoli and Juventus coy on the situation, Everton have a real opportunity to steal a march in the race to sign De Winter.

The Blues will be left with just two centre-backs if Michael Keane leaves upon the expiry of his contract this summer, meaning Moyes is in desperate need of a new defender.

At 22 years of age, De Winter’s best years are ahead of him and could, therefore, establish himself as Tarkowski’s replacement for several years to come.

De Winter to replace Tarkowski

With Everton poised for wholesale changes to their squad, it is unlikely that they will also let Tarkowski go this summer.

However, Moyes will already be planning for life without the veteran, as he enters the final year of his contract.

Therefore, it makes sense for the Toffees to make a move to sign De Winter from Genoa.

The defender is also comfortable playing as a right-back, meaning he can also provide back-up for Jake O’Brien if needed.
