Jarrad Branthwaite reacts as Everton announce brand-new contract for defender

Everton are still trying to thrash out new contracts for first-team players whose deals expire on 30 June.

Everton risk losing several players for free unless they can negotiate terms in the next few days.

However, one first-team defender is set to stay on Merseyside after news of a new deal was confirmed on Friday (27 June), and Branthwaite has now shared his reaction to the news.

Séamus Coleman signs new one-year contract with Everton

Everton captain Séamus Coleman was one of the players at risk of leaving the Toffees for free.

However, that is no longer a possibility this summer as Everton have confirmed that the Irish right-back has signed a new one-year contract on Merseyside.

This means Coleman will lead Everton out at their new stadium once the Premier League season begins. Their first home match at Hill Dickinson Stadium is against Brighton on 23 August.

Everton confirmed the deal with Coleman on social media to the delight of their fans, as the defender gets set for his 17th season with the Toffees.

Several players showed their support by leaving comments, while Branthwaite liked the Instagram post, amid news that the centre-back is close to agreeing a new contract of his own with Everton.

Everton fans will want Branthwaite to sign a contract too

Branthwaite’s contract doesn’t expire for another two years, but Everton fans will be desperately awaiting news of the defender signing his extension.

The England international has become a key player for David Moyes, which has led to several high-profile Premier League clubs taking notice.

If Branthwaite were to sign a new deal this summer, it would feel almost as good as a new signing. That’s how important he has become.

Manchester City and Tottenham are supposedly preparing bids this summer, but Everton will be determined to keep hold of him.

With so many deals to get over the line, it could be a tense few days on the blue half of Liverpool.
