Kenny Tete ‘agreement reached’ in new Everton transfer twist

Everton are keen on signing Kenny Tete as his contract at Fulham is set to expire at the end of June.

The Toffees are keen on a new right-back and David Moyes wants to bring Tete to Merseyside this summer.

The Dutchman moved to Craven Cottage in 2020 from Lyon and has been a first-team regular for them.

Fulham confident of tying Tete down to new contract

According to Fabrizio Romano (30 June), Fulham are understood to be close to reaching an agreement with the 29-year-old.

The Cottagers have been in talks with him and now appear to be convincing him to commit his future in the capital.

Tete almost accepted the proposal to move to Everton, but that deal could now fall through.

With Ashley Young departing, the Toffees are in the market for a new right-back who can start regularly.

Given Seamus Coleman’s age, he will not be able to play week in and week out, leaving Nathan Patterson as the other out-and-out right-back.

Everton may have to look at alternatives

Given the recent twist in Tete’s future, it is wise for Everton to look for alternate right-backs.

On a free transfer, the former Lyon defender would undoubtedly have been a shrewd piece of business.

They were securing the services of a Premier League proven defender, arguably in his prime, without shelling out a transfer fee.

However, it’s time for the recruitment team to present Moyes with other options or ask the Scotsman what he has in mind.

Transfer twists happen each window, so this is not the end of the world, but they need to bring in a new right-back as soon as possible.

He will take time to adapt to his teammates and it’s an important role so he’ll need a decent amount of pre-season training before he’s ready to start regularly.
