Mark Travers set for Everton medical as fee agreed for next transfer

Everton are a step closer to signing Bournemouth goalkeeper Mark Travers.

The Blues are in need of a backup for Jordan Pickford due to departures at the end of the season, and the Irishman would be a solid option.

The likes of Asmir Begovic and Joao Virginia left at the end of their contracts, and a replacement is vital in case the England star gets injured.

David Moyes‘ side have other priorities, such as midfield and the forward line, but it is crucial that they get a number two stopper in too.

Everton medical set as Travers fee agreed

There were concerns that Travers may reject a move to Everton due to worries around his playing time, but it seems like that hurdle has been overcome.

talkSPORT journalist Alex Crook (14 July) claimed that Travers is having his medical today with the Blues.

He states that the Toffees have agreed a £4million fee with the Cherries ahead of a potential move.

Travers agrees to Everton back up role

Travers had wanted a move where he was a number one goalkeeper, which could have left the Friedkin Group‘s plans in tatters.

However, it appears that the Blues have assured him over those concerns; maybe they have framed it as a competition for Pickford.

In reality, though, it will not be that, the England number one will be the guaranteed starter and Travers will pick up limited appearances throughout the campaign.

It is a clever move from the Hill Dickinson Stadium outfit, as the 26-year-old is a solid stopper and a great depth piece.

Whether it is a good move for the player remains to be seen, as he is unlikely to feature as much as he wants and may spend most of his time on the bench.

The Blues must now turn their attention to alternative positions, with the likes of John McGinn and Hayden Hackney high on their shortlist for midfield in this window.

They also need another attacking addition, Thierno Barry was a great addition, but they need more than just him and Beto to lead the line.

It is an exciting start for the L4 outfit, however, they need to ensure that they continue to add to Moyes’ squad before the season starts.
