Everton look set to win race for Douglas Luiz amid late transfer twist

Everton have been heavily linked to Douglas Luiz throughout the transfer window.

The former Aston Villa man has struggled at Juventus since his move last summer and is now looking to return to the Premier League

Luiz has been linked to a number of English clubs this summer, with the Old Lady also willing to sanction the sale.

Everton have been one of the favourites to sign Luiz, and now the Toffees stand a serious chance of getting the deal over the line.

Douglas Luiz to snub West Ham amid Everton interest

It was reported on Tuesday that Luiz’s agent had come to England to speak to several Premier League clubs

While these teams were not named, Everton and West Ham would have likely been spoken to, given the rumours.

However, according to GIVEMESPORT (23 July), the Hammers have now fallen behind in the race for the Brazilian.

The article states that West Ham are struggled to persuade Luiz to move to the London Stadium.

This is due to the midfielder currently being on £150k-a-week at Juventus, a pay package that the Hammers are unprepared to match for the loan deal.

While Graham Potter’s side remain interested in Luiz, Everton now have the perfect chance to win the race for his signature.

West Ham were one of the Toffees’ main competitors, and with them now behind, David Moyes has no excuse not to seal the deal.

Moyes needs to seal Luiz deal as soon as possible

While the West Ham news will likely relieve pressure on Moyes, the Scotsman still needs to get the deal done as soon as possible.

The longer Everton wait, the more likely it is for another club to jump into the race and hijack the transfer.

Luiz is also likely to be eager to move as soon as possible, given how close the start of the new season is.

Therefore, Moyes must finalise the deal promptly to ensure that there are no hiccups.
