Since joining Everton, Jordan Pickford has done something more than all but one Premier League goalkeeper

Jordan Pickford’s heroics in Everton’s clash against Brighton ensured the majority at the Hill Dickinson stadium witnessed a winning start.

Jack Grealish assisted twice as Everton secured a 2-0 victory over Brighton, but if it wasn’t for Pickford’s performance between the sticks, it could have easily been dropped points for the Toffees.

Pickford produced some excellent stops, including one that bailed out teammate James Tarkowski, as the Englishman produced one of his best performances in a while.

It was also Pickford’s penalty save to deny Danny Welbeck deep into the second half that prevented a Seagulls resurgence, and in doing so, placed himself among the very best.

Jordan Pickford one of the Premier League’s best at saving penalties

For club and country, the 31-year-old is one of the best in pressured situations, relishing his chance to step up to the plate.

On many occasions, he’s bailed England out with his heroics, and after saving Welbeck’s spot kick on Sunday, an interesting statistic was pointed out.

As highlighted by Squawka, only Lukas Fabianski, formerly of West Ham, has saved more penalties than Pickford since the 2017/18 season.

Meanwhile, the only Englishmen with more penalty saves in Premier League history are David James, Rob Green and Ben Foster.

Everton fans will realise how his outstanding reflexes have not only helped them win three points today, but also keep them in the top flight on several occasions.

Wolves up next in the Premier League

After losing 1-0 to Leeds United in disappointing fashion, the Toffees bounced back with a much-improved performance against Brighton, orchestrated by the brilliance of Grealish.

Moyes’ men will want to build momentum heading into the international break, and a trip to Wolves represents a fantastic opportunity.

Wolves have lost their opening two games against Manchester City and Bournemouth, scoring zero and conceding five.

Vitor Pereira, who almost joined Everton years ago, has been placed under pressure already, and the Toffees can capitalise on that, especially if Grealish produces another electric display.
