Everton player ratings vs Mansfield – Carlos Alcaraz difference maker, 3/10 lets David Moyes down

Everton progressed into the third round of the Carabao Cup in a 2-0 victory over Mansfield on Wednesday.

David Moyes side made it back-to-back wins at the Hill Dickinson Stadium after Everton’s 2-0 victory over Brighton on the weekend.

After a drab first half, Carlos Alcaraz sprag the match to life with a stunning curling effort into the top corner six minutes into the second period.

Everton netted a second late on, with Jake O’Brien’s ball finding Beto to make the result safe.

From here, Moyes side saw out the rest of the match to comfortably progress into the next round.

Carlos Alcaraz makes the difference for David Moyes

In a match seriously lacking attacking quality, Alcaraz took it upon himself to make the difference at the Hill Dickinson Stadium

After multiple chances were missed, the attacking midfielder hit a beautiful, curly effort into the corner of the net from the edge of the box.

This moment of quality proved to be the difference in securing Everton’s spot in the third round.

On top of the goal, Alcaraz had a great overall match and was easily one of the standouts in a dull game.

Thierno Barry continues to struggle at Everton

Since Thierno Barry has joined Everton this summer, he has struggled.

The striker has been one of the Toffees’ major signings so far this summer, coming in after a prolific spell in La Liga.

However, after Barry was poor for Everton against Brighton on the weekend, this trend continued against Manfield.

The striker struggled to get involved and did not hold the ball up well when needed.

At times, Barry just looked lost and was rightly hooked just after the hour mark.

Hopefully, the striker will be able to find his first goal soon to boost his confidence and get his Everton career underway.
