Everton midfielder now free to leave as Merlin Rohl deal edges closer
Everton are looking to confirm the signing of Merlin Rohl on deadline day as David Moyes finally gets his hands on a new midfielder.
The German star is believed to have plenty of potential after impressing at SC Freiburg in the Bundesliga.
Everton are believed to be signing Rohl for £17.3million in what could be a bargain for David Moyes.
However, if the transfer is sealed, it could allow the Toffees to make further changes to their squad before the 7pm deadline.

Harrison Armstrong could be allowed to leave Everton on loan
Harrison Armstrong has proved to be a breakout star at Everton this summer.
After making his Toffees first-team debut last season, the midfielder was loaned out to Derby County in the latter half of the campaign.
Coming back in the summer, Armstrong has impressed in pre-season and even started in the Carabao Cup victory over Mansfield, assisting both goals.
- Armstrong has made eight first-team appearances for Everton, collecting three assists
- The midfielder spent the latter part of the 2024/25 campaign on loan at Derby County
- Armstrong could now be loaned out by Everton again
Recently, Preston have been interested in taking Armstrong on loan, but Moyes was unsure about sanctioning the deal.
However, according to Alan Nixon’s Patreon, if Rohl joins Everton, it should free up Armstrong to head out on loan.
While Preston are leading the race, Blackburn Rovers and Derby County are also interested.

Loaning Harrison Armstrong out would be a mistake by David Moyes
If Armstrong does leave Everton on loan on deadline day, it would be a mistake by Moyes.
While the midfielder does need gametime, he has already proved this season that he is capable of playing a part.
Out of the Toffees’ four matches, the 18-year-old has already played twice and impressed.
Rohl signing for Everton should not make a difference, as if one star gets injured, Moyes could find himself in trouble.
