Everton midfielder set to join Stockport in last-minute deal

Everton are set for a busy transfer deadline day, with several deals in the works at the Hill Dickinson Stadium.

Everton are interested in a move for SC Freiburg midfielder Merlin Rohl, with negotiations underway after the German arrived on Merseyside.

David Moyes is keen to add further depth to his midfield in the final hours of the window, with the 23-year-old appearing top of the list of targets.

Everton could pay £17.3million for Rohl, with discussions taking place over a potential loan with an obligation to buy next summer.

Moyes is trying to get two signings done on deadline day, with the Toffees in need of reinforcements in a few areas of the squad.

Tyler Onyango set to join Stockport County

Tyler Onyago looked set for a loan move to Stockport County earlier in the summer, but a move was delayed by Everton.

The midfielder is yet to make an appearance this season, however, and the Toffees could now be set to grant him his move.

Onyango spent last season on loan at Stockport County, making just seven appearances in League One after suffering with a significant hamstring injury.

The 22-year-old clearly impressed in his brief time spent on the pitch in the third tier, however, with the Hatters now looking to bring the England youth international back.

Alan Myers reported on Monday 1 September that Onyango is expected to join Stockport County on deadline day, in what will be a loan deal.

It is not yet clear what type of fee Everton will receive for the midfielder, but it can be expected to be minimal.

Everton confident over midfield arrival

Onyango was never likely to play a role in Moyes’ squad this season, but Everton’s willingness to let him leave would suggest confidence at the Hill Dickinson Stadium over the arrival of a new midfielder.

Rohl appears to be the first choice, and a move that would see the German join the Toffees before the window slams shut seems to be more and more likely.

The 23-year-old represents a different style of player to Onyango, but would provide similar cover in the centre of midfield, having played there for SC Freiburg at times last season.

Rohl’s arrival could also see Harrison Armstrong exit the club, with Preston North End keen on a loan move.
