Everton star Sean Dyche called ‘tremendous’ now set to stay despite exit talk

Everton’s right-back woes look set to continue.

David Moyes was believed to be targeting a right-back as part of the Blues’ deadline day business.

Everton missed out on Kenny Tete earlier in the window and has been unable to bring in an alternative option after he agreed a new contract with Fulham.

That looks unlikely to change, and it may lead to one exit-linked star staying put at the Hill Dickinson Stadium.

Nathan Patterson set for Everton stay after loan developments

Nathan Patterson looked set to leave Everton and join Sevilla on a season-long loan deal, but that seems to have collapsed on deadline day.

The Guardian‘s Andy Hunter reported on 1 September that Patterson’s proposed loan deal to the Spanish club looked to be off.

He stated that Juanlu Sanchez looks set to remain with the La Liga side, with Napoli’s interest cooling, so they do not need the Scotland international.

Sean Dyche was huge fan of Nathan Patterson at Everton

Former Blues manager Sean Dyche was a big fan of the 23-year-old, despite his constant injury issues in his time on Merseyside.

Patterson particularly impressed the ex-Burnley boss in a 5-1 win against Brighton in May 2023, when he kept Kaoru Mitoma at bay.

Speaking to BT Sport after the contest, Dyche said: “I thought Patto [Patterson] was terrific, coming in for Seamus [Coleman], who has been amazing since he got to the club.

“[Kaoru] Mitoma has been arguably one of the best wide players in the Premier League this year, and I thought Pato was tremendous.”

If Patterson can get over the injury issues that have plagued him since his £16million move from Rangers in January 2022, he could forge a role in the Toffees’ squad.

Given that Moyes looks unlikely to get a right-back in, Patterson will be the back-up behind Jake O’Brien, the centre-back who is currently the preferred option.

If the Scottish ace can prove his form, he could eventually overhaul the Ireland international in the starting line-up.

It seems like a long-shot, but you never know in football, sometimes, players just need a stroke of luck and a loan move falling through could be exactly that for Patterson.
