Merlin Rohl whereabouts revealed amid new Everton transfer development
Everton are chasing Freiburg midfielder Merlin Rohl on transfer deadline day.
David Moyes is keen to add to his Everton squad, and midfield is a major area of concern for the Blues with the deadline approaching.
Idrissa Gueye, James Garner and Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall are the Scotsman’s starting options at the moment but he could do with some depth.
The likes of Tim Ireogbunam and Everton academy graduate Harrison Armstrong would be better suited to a loan deal, to better their development.
An incoming could allow the Toffees to sanction a temporary departure for one of them.
Merlin Rohl to Everton is moving quickly
Everton had approached Freiburg over Rohl on 31 August, and it seems like the transfer is moving very quickly.
According to The Bobble on X on 1 September, Rohl has now landed on Merseyside for talks with the Blues.
If those talks go well, then a medical will be scheduled ahead and the formalities completed ahead of the 19:00 pm transfer deadline.
Everton still need one or two more after Merlin Rohl signing
If the Blues complete the Rohl transfer, they still need one or two more additions before the deadline strikes.
Moyes is keen on a right-back, as Jake O’Brien, who is naturally a centre-back, is his main option in the position at the moment.
Everton’s right-back options
- Jake O’Brien – is not a right-back, but has been forced to play there
- Seamus Coleman – Veteran, but is extremely injury-prone at the age of 36
- Nathan Patterson – Expected to leave on loan on deadline day
They are also planning to bring in a left-sided centre back, after missing out on Victor Lindelof, who now looks Aston Villa-bound.
The Friedkin Group need to back Moyes, so he can achieve his ambitions of qualifying for European competition.
The new ownership cannot leave the Scotsman short in terms of his squad depth; otherwise he may not be able to reach those lofty aims this season.
Work on and off the pitch under the Friedkin’s has been brilliant so far, but there is still room for further improvement and it must continue on deadline day.
