Three players Everton can sign for nothing in 2026 include ‘sensational’ Man City star
Everton had an extremely busy transfer window, having made eight signings to add quality to the first team.
Everton have started the season well, winning two of their opening three matches with some of their new arrivals already proving to be a hit amongst the fans.
Jack Grealish has been a revelation so far, whilst Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall has also rediscovered his confidence.
With the Everton board looking towards the future, here are three players Everton have been previously linked with whose contracts run out at the end of the 2025/26 season.

John Stones – Manchester City
Stones left Everton to join Manchester City for £50m in 2016 and has since enjoyed a trophy-laiden career.
- Six Premier League titles
- Four Carabao Cup wins
- Two FA Cup wins
- One Champions League win
Having such an extensive list of honours is rare, but Stones has emerged the best English defender of the last decade.
Don Hutchison once called Stones ‘sensational’, and now news of a return to Everton is a possibility.
Stones was linked with Everton this summer, but ultimately chose to remain in Manchester.
Yet with his contract expiring in 12 months, Stones could be making a return to Merseyside.

Yves Bissouma – Tottenham Hotspur
Bissouma joined Tottenham in 2022 on a £30m deal from Brighton.
Since his arrival, he has been an ever-present figure at the heart of the Tottenham midfield, featuring 100 times for the club.
Season | Appearances |
2022/23 | 28 |
2023/24 | 28 |
2024/25 | 44 |
Bissouma was close to joining Everton this summer as reports have surfaced claiming the Mali international is not part of new manager Thomas Frank’s plans.
Bissouma was left out of Tottenham’s Super Cup squad against Paris Saint-Germain due to disciplinary reasons and isn’t a part of their Champions League squad.
Despite not joining the Toffees this window, Everton could be approach the midfielder again once his contract runs out.

Kieran Trippier – Newcastle United
Trippier has had an eventful career, with a spell at Atletico Madrid sandwiched between his long stints at Tottenham and Newcastle.
In 2024, Trippier was linked with a move to Everton, where he would have reunited with Sean Dyche at the time.
Trippier has started all three of Newcastle’s games this season, and whilst a move to Everton may seem unlikely, there have been no talks of a further contract extension.
Whilst Moyes has never worked with the full-back, any Premier League club would be lucky to have Trippier’s experience and dead-ball quality in their side.
