David Moyes will be raging at Premier League announcement for Everton vs Aston Villa

Everton host Aston Villa on Saturday, hoping to continue their winning run.

The Hill Dickinson Stadium clash on 13 September is crucial, as it could take Everton to three wins from their first four Premier League matches.

For the Villans, they are desperate for a victory after failing to win any of their first three matches, without scoring a single goal, and Unai Emery will be without several key players for the Everton clash.

David Moyes will be confident, but he may also be concerned after a new announcement was made for the contest.

Everton vs Aston Villa referee appointments announced

Simon Hooper is a controversial official when it comes to Everton, with several controversies in the past.

The 43-year-old will be the man in the middle, and he will be assisted by Adrian Holmes and Simon Long, with Andrew Kitchen as the fourth official.

Alex Chilowicz will be in charge of VAR, with Tony Harrington alongside him as assistant VAR.

Why will David Moyes be angry with Simon Hooper appointment?

Hooper has made a number of mistakes that have been against the Blues, with two high-profile errors in the 2024/25 campaign.

The referee initially awarded the Toffees a penalty in a 3-0 defeat to Brighton last season at Goodison Park, but he overturned it after consulting the monitor.

However, it emerged that the VAR screen was not working, and he had to view the incident on a backup monitor, but it still left a sour taste.

Another error was in the 2-0 loss to Manchester City in April, when he gave a corner when Jeremy Doku was the one who took the ball out of play, and Pep Guardiola’s side scored from that set piece.

The Blues have already been the subject of two controversial penalty calls in their opening three matches, and they will hope that there is no more on Saturday.

Hopefully, Moyes’ side can get the business done before there is any chance for the officials to impact proceedings in a negative way.
