Jarrad Branthwaite injury update shared as Everton star eyes comeback vs Wolves

Jarrad Branthwaite could be set to make his return from injury for Everton next week, with Tuesday’s FA Cup clash with Wolves appearing the perfect opportunity.

David Moyes would have hoped he could have returned on Saturday, as Everton lost 2-1 to Liverpool, but the defender narrowly missed out.

Branthwaite suffered a setback in his recovery from a hamstring injury that ruled out him out at the end of last season, with Michael Keane featuring in the England international’s absence.

And the 32-year-old has performed well, joining forces with James Tarkowski to keep clean sheets in three of Everton’s six games across all competitions this season.

But Moyes confirmed Branthwaite is close to making a return for Everton, and that return could come next week.

Jarrad Branthwaite will not hit the ground running

Everton will be eager to get Branthwaite back and playing football, but will not want to rush the defender and risk a further injury.

The defender suffered several issues last season, with both his groin and his hamstring proving problematic.

And the Toffees have shown their capabilities without him, with both Tarkowski and Keane doing their bit to protect Jordan Pickford’s goal.

Moyes will be keen to see how his new-look Everton side looks with the addition of Branthwaite, however.

Fans of the Toffees will have to wait to see the 23-year-old back to his best, though, with Dr Rajpal Brar predicting that the Englishman will need time to get back up to speed.

“Considering the length of the absence,” the injury expert exclusively told Goodison News, “he will need multiple matches with bounce minutes and then a run of games to get him back to speed.”

When could Jarrad Branthwaite make his return?

If Branthwaite is as close as Moyes explained, Tuesday’s Carabao Cup tie against Wolves would be an ideal time to reintroduce him.

The defender could appear off the bench, with the home side likely to be more focused on their Premier League fixtures.

That would allow Branthwaite to make his Premier League return on Monday 29 September against West Ham at the Hill Dickinson Stadium, with another home match against Crystal Palace to follow.
