Last-gasp Everton team news blow vs Wolves – New signing set for late fitness test

David Moyes may have to re-shuffle his Everton side against Wolves on Tuesday evening.

Everton travel to Molineux for the third round of the Carabao Cup, where they will look to replicate their 3-2 away victory against Wolves in August.

The game could see star man Jarrad Branthwaite back in action for Everton, as many changes are expected to be made by Moyes.

Branthwaite will only improve an Everton defence that has made an impressive start to the season.

Moyes faces a key selection dilemma ahead of the game, with one of Everton’s new signings potentially forced out pending a late fitness test.

Merlin Rohl is a doubt for Everton with a fitness test pending

Merlin Rohl joined Everton this summer on a loan deal from Bundesliga side Freiburg.

The 23-year-old German midfielder has only featured once in a matchday squad for the Toffees this season, when he made a 24-minute cameo in a goalless draw against Aston Villa.

As reported by injury expert Ben Dinnery on Premier Injuries, Rohl has the potential to play on Tuesday night; however, that depends on a late fitness test. His chances of playing are currently at 25 per cent.

Rohl would’ve been eager to make his first start tonight against a Wolves side who are yet to pick up a single point in the Premier League.

Tim Iroegbunam set for another chance

With Merlin now a heavy doubt, it means that other fringe players may now have a chance to shine.

Tim Iroegbunam will almost certainly be a beneficiary of Rohl’s potential absence, as the former was axed from the starting line-up to face Liverpool on Saturday.

Moyes seems to have placed his trust in Iroegbunam from the off this season, as he started in Everton’s opening two Premier League games.

However, in the last four games, he has only made the starting line-up on one occasion, when he failed to make a real impact against Aston Villa.

Tuesday night promises to be a real opportunity for the midfielder to make a statement and become a regular first-team starter, unless Rohl can prove his fitness to jump in.
