Paul Tierney’s three biggest Everton controversies after Premier League announcement vs West Ham
Everton will have concerns ahead of the clash with West Ham on Monday.
Everton are looking to bounce back from their Carabao Cup exit to Wolves in midweek, while the Hammers desperately need a win.
Graham Potter could be dismissed if Everton win at the Hill Dickinson Stadium on 29 September after a dismal start, as per Sofascore.
However, he may be more confident after an announcement was made ahead of the fixture.

Paul Tierney appointed as VAR for Everton vs West Ham
Everton may be fuming with Sam Barrott being the referee after his previous controversial decisions against them.
However, they should be more concerned about the man who is in charge of VAR for Monday evening’s contest, Paul Tierney.
The 44-year-old has been involved in several debatable decisions involving the Blues, which Goodison News lists below.

Everton 0-1 Manchester City – 26 February 2022
The eventual champions needed a helping hand, quite literally, when they picked up a 1-0 win over the Blues in February 2022.
Phil Foden scored the only goal of the clash in the 82nd minute, but the Toffees were denied a penalty by Tierney after Rodri seemed to handle inside the area.
The referee was booed off by the Goodison Park crowd after the final whistle, and was involved in a confrontation with Ashley Cole, who was a part of Frank Lampard’s coaching staff.
Aston Villa 0-0 Everton – 14 January 2024
It was a drab encounter between the Villans and the Toffees in January 2024, but there was still controversy involving Tierney.
He was the VAR and took nearly four minutes to rule out an Alex Moreno strike for offside, when it was clear that there was one in the build-up.
The amount of time that Tierney took was ridiculous.
Liverpool vs Everton – 2 April 2025
The late Diogo Jota scored the winner for Liverpool at Anfield in April 2025.
However, Luis Diaz was offside in the build-up to the strike and potentially impacted James Tarkowski’s position as a result.
However, Tierney, who was VAR, reviewed the strike and decided not to overturn the goal, which left Moyes absolutely furious post-match.
