Valentin Castellanos exit twist emerges in £30m Everton transfer development

Lazio striker Valentin Castellanos could potentially be back on the radar at Everton in the January transfer window.

The Argentina international joined the Italian club in 2023 after an impressive loan spell at Girona from New York City FC, and was a key player for the Serie A outfit last season.

Castellanos was being linked with a move to the Hill Dickison Stadium in the summer, but he ended up staying at the Stadio Olimpico.

Thierno Barry has failed to hit the ground running under David Moyes, and the Merseyside outfit may want to reinforce their attack in the coming months.

Lazio open to Valentin Castellanos sale in January amid Everton interest

Lazio have changed their stance on selling Castellanos, with Maurizio Sarri now giving the go-ahead, according to Il Messaggero.

The new outlet reports on 8 October, via La Lazio Siamo Noi, that the Serie A outfit didn’t want to cash in on the striker in the summer, but will now be open to accepting offers of around £30million.

It’s been claimed that the Toffees had made enquiries about the 27-year-old in the summer, but the Italian club didn’t allow any deal to progress.

If the Blues do decide to re-enter the race for the Argentine forward, they may have to compete with the likes of Real Betis, Nottingham Forest and West Ham United for his signature.

Beto has underperformed at the Hill Dickinson Stadium this season, with the Guinea-Bissau international failing to convert some of his opportunities.

With Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Youssef Chermiti and Armando Broja no longer part of the Merseyside outfit’s squad, they arguably needed to buy more bodies up front in the previous transfer window.

David Moyes to relish Didier Droba-like Valentin Castellanos

Castellanos has been compared to Chelsea icon Didier Drogba due to his intelligence and finishing skills.

The Argentina international has started in a majority of fixtures for Lazio this season, and it’s surprising to see Sarri being open to his exit, with Everton and other top teams on the prowl.

Castlellanos also possesses decent ability in winning aerial duels, which will surely come in handy for creative players like Jack Grealish and Iliman Ndiaye on the wings.

It’s clear that The Friedkin Group should invest in the Toffees’ squad in the upcoming transfer window as Moyes looks to qualify for Europe in the Premier League.
