Jack Grealish will be fuming as David Moyes eyes ‘shocking’ striker to solve Everton’s attacking woes
Everton’s attacking woes have continued into the 2025-26 campaign, with David Moyes unable to get his strikers to hit form.
The signing of Thierno Barry at the Hill Dickinson Stadium has proved to be a disaster so far, with the attacker without a goal for the Toffees.
On top of this, Beto has been awful for Everton, with the duo’s form already costing the Merseyside club multiple points.
As a result, a new striker may be needed in January. However, Moyes could easily make another terrible decision in the transfer market.

Jack Grealish will be fuming if Everton sign Joshua Zirkzee
According to a report from The i Paper on 8 October, Everton are considering a loan move for Joshua Zirkzee.
The striker has had a tough start to life at Manchester United, and currently finds himself out of favour.
However, Jack Grealish will be far from happy if the Toffees do pursue the 24-year-old.
Zirkzee was awful at Man United last season, only netting three goals in 32 Premier League games.
- Zirkzee signed for Manchester United in 2024
- In 57 appearances in all competitions, he has only scored seven goals
- The striker is currently out of favour at Man United, and is linked with a loan move to Everton
As a result, pundits such as Frank de Boer labelled the striker as “absolutely shocking” to Tribal Football on 30 September 2024 after their 3-0 defeat to Tottenham.
With Grealish proving to be a creative mastermind at Everton, the winger will not want another striker who can’t score up top, with Zirkzee guaranteed to waste more chances.

Realistically, the Toffees need someone who is on form, and can quickly find the net when called upon.
Hopefully, Everton quickly move on to other targets, and the potential deal for Zirkzee is nothing more than speculation.
How bad was Zirkzee at Man United last season?
To say Zirkzee was poor at Man United last season is an understatement.
According to Sofascore on 9 October, the striker was regularly missing big chances, converting just 35.7 per cent.
On top of this, he was only averaging a goal every 324 minutes, while also failing to have regular touches in the box.

Therefore, it seems obvious that a move to Everton would end in failure for both parties.
While Moyes will be hoping to recover the striker’s form, the Toffees simply do not have the benefit of taking such risks when their current strikers are so poor.
