England media in agreement on Everton star Jordan Pickford as record broken in Wales win
Jordan Pickford has been as important in an England shirt as he has been for Everton over the years.
Pickford was one of several Everton players called up for international duty over the international break.
While the Everton keeper was likely one of the first names on the team sheet, shockingly, his teammate, Jack Grealish, was not called up by Thomas Tuchel.
However, Pickford was a man on a mission in England’s game against Wales, and given the 3-0 scoreline, it’s safe to say that it was mission accomplished for the Toffees star.

Jordan Pickford put on a solid performance for England
Pickford overtook Gordon Banks’ record after England’s win over Wales became his eighth consecutive clean sheet for the Three Lions.
- Pickford made two saves from inside the box
- Four of his long balls were accurate
- He made one clearance
While it was a job well done for the Everton star, he was a “spectator for the most part” due to England’s dominance, according to Goal.
Other than a sharp hand to deny Neco Williams around an hour into the game, Pickford had little to do, which is why a six rating from the website seems fair.
Meanwhile, his record-breaking night earned him a couple of brownie points with The Independent, who described him as “the most undisputed of undisputed of No.1s”.
The outlet gave him an eight out of 10 rating for his performance, and after setting a record that it may take another 60 years to break, the Everton keeper more than deserves the praise.
The Mirror gave Pickford a seven and hailed his two “super saves” to keep a record eighth successive clean sheet for England.
Ultimately, the local media were all in agreement that while it was a straightforward evening, Pickford still played his part in the clean sheet.
Should Jordan Pickford remain England’s No.1?
Despite his heroics in an England shirt, the Toffees keeper has been underappreciated throughout the years.
To a degree, it makes sense. Pickford has been a starter for the Three Lions for years, and it’s only human nature to want something new.
Dean Henderson is the current goalkeeping reserve for England and has had opportunities to shine for his country when Pickford has been sidelined.

There is no doubt that he has been better in the air than Pickford this season, while the Everton star outperforms him on interceptions.
However, basic statistics for the entire season in no shape or form reflect how a player performs for his country.
Harry Maguire, for example, spent years struggling at Manchester United only to become prime Sergio Ramos when in an England shirt.
While Pickford is consistent for Everton, he is immense for the Three Lions, and after several years of leadership, passion and success, no player has the credentials to replace the Everton keeper.
