Everton would be doomed without Jordan Pickford as latest contract developments emerge

Jordan Pickford has been an absolute rock for Everton.

Pickford made England history against Wales on Thursday by surpassing Gordon Banks and becoming the first Three Lions goalkeeper to keep eight consecutive clean sheets.

This is hardly a shock for supporters who have been able to count on Pickford’s heroics since his transfer from Sunderland in 2017.

With his contract expiring in 2027, Everton have already begun talks to renew his current deal.

Ally McCoist and Jeff Stelling rave about Jordan Pickford’s impact on Everton

Pickford is set to sign a new long-term contract at Everton ahead of their match against Man City on Saturday.

This will be a huge sigh of relief for fans who have become accustomed to having the reliable goalkeeper bailing them out of trouble over the years.

His penalty save against Brighton in the first match at the Hill Dickinson Stadium typified everything that his career has been about: coming up with big moments when it has mattered most.

Speaking live on talkSPORT on 13 October, Ally McCoist was full of praise for Jordon Pickford’s career at Everton after news of his contract.

He said: “He’s obviously very happy at Everton, and that goes a long way.

“Sometimes you get players who are really happy in an environment, and the whole setup at Everton is great for him. I think he’s an excellent goalkeeper, I really do.”

Jeff Stelling added: “Without him, Everton would be in the Championship.”

David Moyes wants to build his Everton team around Pickford in the future, and if the negotiations are confirmed as successful, it lays the brickwork for Everton to start dreaming about potential European finishes.

Eyebrows were raised when Everton paid £30million to Sunderland for Pickford back in 2017, yet it is fair to say that it has been money well spent.

Jordan Pickford provides huge transfer market solution for Everton

Everton have not had to worry about signing a new goalkeeper for nine seasons now, a luxury that rarely any other club has had.

Barring Alisson at Liverpool, every other top-flight club has had to worry about shot stoppers settling in and performing instantly.

Very few goalkeepers adapt smoothly to the Premier League, and Pickford’s presence ensures that Everton can focus their efforts in the transfer market on other positions.

Pickford has received praise from Everton legends of the past, and if he signs his new deal, he is well on his way to becoming one himself.
