Where will Jordan Pickford finish in Everton’s all-time appearance list on current trajectory?

Jordan Pickford is set to further commit his future to Everton by signing a new four-year contract this week.

The England international’s latest deal was set to expire in 2027, but Pickford will now be tied down to Everton until 2029.

Pickford is happy to see out his career at Hill Dickinson Stadium, with this latest contract taking him up to the age of 35.

Given Pickford’s record-breaking form for England, and his consistently brilliant displays for Everton, there is every chance he will extend his career way beyond that age – possibly even into his 40s.

But exactly where does Pickford stand among Everton’s all-time record appearance makers right now, and is there any chance he could one day top the list?

Goodison News, with the aid of Sofascore data, looks at exactly where Pickford could end up on his current trajectory.

Jordan Pickford currently 22nd on Everton’s all-time appearance list

It says it all about the 31-year-old that, even now some nine seasons into his Everton career, Pickford is still the man David Moyes wants to build around.

Pickford has accrued 326 appearances for Everton so far, placing him 22nd on the list of all-time appearance makes.

That is just ahead of Tommy Eglington (315), Wally Fielding (309) and Johnny Morrissey (306), all of whom he has overtaken this year.

To break into the top 20, Pickford needs to play four more games to overtake Tony Hibbert (329) and 13 more games to move ahead of Brian Harris (338) outright.

Pickford is continuing to climb Everton’s all-time appearance list

Assuming Pickford stays injury free and plays every game, he could therefore move into the top 20 when Everton face Brentford on 3 January.

While Pickford is steadily climbing the list, he still has quite some way to go if he is to ever supersede the man number one on that list, the great Neville Southall.

Southall made 750 appearances for Everton in a record that, quite honestly, will never be beaten given just how vast that number is.

However, Pickford certainly has age on his side and it is certainly not impossible that he breaks that record one day.

How long would it take Pickford to break Neville Southall’s Everton record?

Sofascore‘s Pickford data helps emphasis how much of a consistent presence Pickford has been between the sticks.

In seven full calendar years as an Everton player, Pickford has never made fewer than 34 appearances in a single one of those.

The 46 appearances Pickford made in 2023 remains a personal best, while the fewest came in 2021 and 2022 when playing 34 times in each.

Pickford has been used 28 times in 2025 and that could – and probably will – climb as high as 40 by the time the year is out.

So exactly how many appearances is Pickford on course to make with his current contract? Well, using figures from Pickford’s full years on Merseyside, he averages around 37 games a year.

This is massively dependent on Pickford’s fitness record, of course, which is rather exemplary – he’s had no issues of note since 2022-23 – and of course Everton’s runs in cup competitions.

But using that figure as a base, and going on the basis that Pickford ends this year on 338 apps, he is set to make 449 appearances for Everton come the end of 2028.

Then, based on this year, there will be a further 22 matches in the first half of the 2028-29 campaign, taking Pickford up to 471 in total.

Even if those numbers of slightly inflated by assuming Pickford does not suffer any sort of long-term injury, it would place him just outside Everton’s top five all-time appearance makers.

Kevin Ratcliffe is fifth on that list with 494, Ted Segar fourth with 500, Dave Watson third with 528 and Brian Labone in second on 534. As a reminder, Southall has a remarkable 750.

So to answer the original question, Pickford would likely need until early 2036, playing as regularly as he does right now, to surpass Southall.

Pickford’s Premier League record for Everton

These figures take all competitions into account, but accounting for just the Premier League, Pickford would already be near the top of the list.

Leighton Baines, with 420 Premier League appearances in an Everton shirt, is the man for Pickford to beat.

The goalkeeper is currently on a nice rounded 300 appearances, with Pickford’s landmark milestone coming in the win over Crystal Palace.

Pickford has kept 85 clean sheets and saved 68 per cent of shots he has faced across that period. He concedes 1.39 goals per game and saves an average of three shots per game.

But Evertonians do not need numbers to tell them what they already know.

That is that they would rather nobody else than Pickford between the sticks, and hopefully he does indeed see out this current deal and come even remotely close to matching Southall.
