Lee Dixon should be ashamed after disrespectful Jordan Pickford remark, Everton right to respond
Everton have responded to Lee Dixon after the former defender appeared to fire a derisive comment in the direction of Jordan Pickford.
Pickford is set to sign a new contract at Everton, which should see his career with the Toffees extend past a decade.
The goalkeeper signed at Goodison Park from Sunderland in 2017, and has written his name into the history books with years of consistent performances.
Pickford would reportedly be happy to retire at Everton, with the 31-year-old keen to pay back the faith shown in him by the Blues faithful.
Away from Merseyside, Pickford broke Gordon Banks’ record for England clean sheets when he kept out Wales last week, with the goalkeeper set to go to the World Cup next season in the hopes of a first trophy.

Everton call out Lee Dixon after ‘bigger club’ jab
Pickford is eyeing Peter Shilton’s England clean sheet record next, with the Sunderland academy product aiming to be named among the Three Lions’ best ever.
The goalkeeper has often faced questions surrounding his position as England number one, but when push comes to shove, the 31-year-old has never faltered.
All that is missing from a glittering international career is the trophy that Pickford will hope to lift at the World Cup next summer.
But Lee Dixon took aim when it came to discussions surrounding the goalkeeper on Tuesday, remarking his “surprise” that Pickford had not joined a “bigger club” while live on ITV 1.
Everton immediately took to social media to respond to the pundit, listing the club’s major honours and writing: “Everton FC – a big club: past, present and future, Lee Dixon.“

Jordan Pickford has never thought about leaving Everton
Speaking after signing a new contract at Everton in 2023, Pickford expressed his desire to stay at Goodison Park.
The goalkeeper told Everton’s website that “this contract will take me to more than 10 years at Everton, and I want to build a legacy here to put myself up with the likes of Neville Southall to be one of the best keepers to have played for Everton.“
Everton | Appearances for Everton |
1. Neville Southall | 713 |
2. Brian Labone | 517 |
3. Dave Watson | 505 |
4. Kevin Ratcliffe | 461 |
5. Ted Sagar | 458 |
22. Jordan Pickford | 326 |
With the goalkeeper now set to sign a new contract, Dixon’s words will only be further rubbished by the 31-year-old’s actions.
It has always been Everton for Pickford, and it will continue to be, no matter what anyone else may try to suggest.
As for Dixon, he should be ashamed at attempting to play down Everton’s history. Thankfully, Pickford understands that the grass isn’t always greener.
