Players you didn’t know played for both Everton and Manchester City – including two-time Premier League winner

Everton face Manchester City when they return to Premier League action.

Everton travel to the Etihad Stadium on 18 October, looking to arrest a concerning record against Pep Guardiola’s side.

David Moyes‘ side have not beaten City in the last 17 meetings, and Everton’s task will be even harder without Jack Grealish, who cannot face his parent club.

The likes of Grealish, Gareth Barry, and John Stones are well known as players who have featured for both teams in their careers.

Here, Goodison News looks at players that supporters may not remember played for the two clubs.

Andrei Kanchelskis

Andrei Kanchelskis is one of just a few Everton players to win the Premier League Player of Month, earning the award for April 1996.

The Ukrainian-born Russian international was already a two-time Premier League winner with Manchester United between 1991 and 1995.

He starred at Goodison Park after joining from the Red Devils in 1995, scoring 20 goals and notching 10 assists for the Toffees in that time.

He spent time with Fiorentina and Rangers before returning to English football with the Citizens on loan for the 2000-01 season, where he played 10 times, with one assist.

Sylvain Distin

Sylvain Distin is a cult hero at Everton, having made 185 appearances for the Blues over five years.

The Frenchman was voted as the Toffees’ Players’ Player of the Season for the 2011-12 campaign for his outstanding performances.

He was generally seen as solid at the back, and formed a brilliant partnership at the back with another fans favourite, Phil Jagielka.

Before moving to Merseyside, he spent four seasons with City, making 182 appearances between 2002 and 2006.

Eliaquim Mangala

Eliaquim Mangala moved to Manchester City from Porto in 2014, and he won the 2017-18 Premier League title with them.

He would make 84 appearances for the Etihad Stadium outfit between 2014 and 2018, but was signed by Everton on loan in January 2018.

The France international played just two times for the Blues in a miserable stint at Goodison, and eventually returned to Valencia on a free transfer.
