Declan Rice and Jack Grealish react immediately as Jordan Pickford extends Everton stay

Jordan Pickford has signed a new contract at Everton, which will see his time on Merseyside extend past 10 years.

It has been reported that Pickford would be happy to retire at Everton, and Thursday’s announcement has only strengthened that belief.

The goalkeeper signed for the Toffees in 2017 and has amassed well over 300 appearances for the Blues in the years since.

Lee Dixon bizarrely suggested that he was surprised Pickford had not joined a “bigger club” during England’s match on Tuesday – a statement that Everton instantly rubbished.

Thomas Tuchel‘s side beat Latvia on the night, with Pickford now set to travel to the World Cup with England next year.

Declan Rice and Jack Grealish respond to Jordan Pickford post

Pickford made history for England last week when he broke Gordon Banks’ record for the most consecutive clean sheets.

The goalkeeper is undoubtedly among the Three Lions’ most important players, and will certainly be in between the sticks at the World Cup.

Despite such widespread acclaim on the international stage, Pickford‘s performances for Everton have sometimes been overlooked.

The goalkeeper has been incredibly consistent throughout his career on Merseyside, and the Toffees could not have been happier to see the England international reaffirm his loyalty on Thursday.

Pickford took to Instagram following the news, and wrote: “4 more years. Couldn’t be prouder to keep representing this club that means so much to me and my family.

Eight amazing years already, the fans, the people, the passion it’s in my blood now. Here’s to more memories, more fight, and more special moments“.

Pickford’s international teammate, Declan Rice, reacted immediately by liking the post, with Jack Grealish doing the same.

Former Premier League goalkeeper Ben Foster commented and wrote: “Well deserved“.

Pickford targeting Everton legend’s record

Speaking to Evertontv following the announcement of his new contract, Pickford set out his aims for the next four years.

“You know, (Neville) Southall is the great at Everton and I don’t want to be far behind him, if not in front of him, when my time comes to an end,” the goalkeeper said.

Southall made a record 751 appearances for the Toffees between 1981 and 1999, so Pickford has some way to go if he is to take that record.

But goalkeepers can play well into their late 30s, so the idea is not completely out of the question.

Pickford will undoubtedly go down among the very best to play for Everton, and his time in blue is not close to over yet.
