Everton’s best players to play at the World Cup for England after Thomas Tuchel’s side qualify for 2026

England have called upon numerous Everton players at World Cups in the past.

Thomas Tuchel‘s side have qualified for the upcoming edition in the United States, and he may require some of David Moyes‘s stars for his squad.

Jack Grealish is one Everton star battling for an England spot for the 2026 tournament, but who has starred before, from the Toffees’ ranks.

Goodison News takes a look into some of the best Blues stars who have shaped England’s past efforts in the competition.

Ray Wilson

Everton have a brilliant history, but Ray Wilson is the only player to win the World Cup while playing for the Toffees.

The left-back was the oldest starting player for Sir Alf Ramsay’s side in the 4-2 final win against West Germany on home soil, at the age of 31.

Wilson joined the Blues in 1964 from Huddersfield Town, featuring 116 times between 1964 and 1969 before finishing his career with Oldham Athletic and Bradford City.

He ultimately made 63 caps for the Three Lions, but surely nothing would have topped getting his hands on the Jules Rimet trophy.

He sadly passed away in 2018, at the age of 83.

Alan Ball

Alan Ball was another member of that World Cup-winning side, but he was not at Everton when he won the trophy.

He joined the Toffees from Blackpool after the tournament, in a £112,000 deal, and made 208 appearances for the Blues.

He was still employed on Merseyside when the 1970 edition of the tournament came about, and he started as West Germany got revenge with a 3-2 win over England in the quarter-finals.

Gary Lineker

Gary Lineker played in two World Cups with England, and he was at Everton for the 1986 version of the competition.

In that tournament, the Three Lions were ultimately eliminated in the quarter-final by Diego Maradona’s double, including the infamous ‘Hand of God’ goal.

Lineker moved to Barcelona after the tournament and played in the 1990 edition in Italy, scoring the equaliser in the semi-final against West Germany, who triumphed on penalties.

Peter Reid

Reid was at Everton when he was taken to the 1986 World Cup by Bobby Robson.

He was handed a chance by injuries, and became a central figure of the team at the tournament, where they were eliminated by Maradona’s brilliance, or cheating, some may say.

He would earn 13 caps for his country, and would not appear at the next edition, when he had moved to Queen’s Park Rangers.

Jordan Pickford

The only Everton player named in Tuchel’s last England squad is Jordan Pickford, and he looks likely to go to the World Cup.

The Three Lions number one has been to two already, being a starter at the 2018 and 2022 editions, where England reached the semi-finals and quarter-finals respectively.

There does not seem to be any reason to suspect that he will not between the sticks for the 2026 tournament.
