David Moyes backed over ‘ridiculous’ comment at Everton press conference
David Moyes is not afraid to hold back on his feelings when it comes to defending Everton.
The Scotsman returned to Merseyside earlier this year and has done a wonderful job in his second spell in charge of Everton.
Moyes’ focus is on Everton’s trip to Manchester City this weekend as the Toffees look to climb the Premier League table.
Moyes has provided an Everton team news update ahead of the game game, with Nathan Patterson the only fresh injury absentee.
Jack Grealish will miss out against parent club City, meanwhile, but Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall is back after serving a suspension.
While the midfielder may be back, Moyes is still not happy at the manner of his recent ban.

David Moyes still not happy at Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall suspension
Dewsbury-Hall missed Everton’s 2-1 win over Crystal Palace as a result of accumulating five yellow cards after just six Premier League matches.
While the punishment itself is considered fair enough, the manner in which Dewsbury-Hall collected two of those bookings left a sour taste in the mouth.
The former Chelsea ace was booked against West Ham despite clearly winning the ball in his challenge with Kyle Walker-Peters, with Dewsbury-Hall slamming that “mind-boggling” decision.
Dewsbury-Hall was previously booked for taking a quick free-kick in the loss to Liverpool.
As per Sofascore, he also collected yellows against Brighton, Wolves and Aston Villa.

When providing a team news update at Friday’s press conference from Finch Farm, Moyes said: “We’ve got Kiernan back after those two ridiculous bookings got him suspended.”
Keith Hackett fully understands David Moyes’ frustration
Moyes has made clear how frustrated he is – still – at those bookings, but he has to be careful not to poke the bear too much and potentially open himself up to an FA fine.
Player | Yellows |
Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall | 5 |
Neco Williams | 4 |
Sasa Lukic | 4 |
Casemiro | 4 |
However, former PGMOL chief Keith Hackett insists Moyes has every right to be angry given how poor those aforementioned calls were.
“I fully understand and support David Moyes on his comments today,” Hackett exclusively told Goodison News.
“What’s he’s said is the truth – it was very poor officiating and yellow cards that were incorrect in application of the law.
“Dewsbury-Hall was suspended as a result of this and Moyes was unable to make use of him.”
Dewsbury-Hall is set to start for Everton at the Etihad Stadium, with Iliman Ndiaye and Carlos Alcaraz either side.
