Paul Merson cannot believe what Everton star did vs Manchester City – ‘Oh No’

Everton were looking for a rare victory against Manchester City on Saturday, and they headed into the break at 0-0.

David Moyes chose to play Carlos Alcaraz on the right wing, with Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall operating in the number 10 role.

Jack Grealish was ineligible for Everton, as he cannot play against his parent club, so the Scotsman opted for an unorthodox solution.

However, it did not help the Blues’ attacking woes, which plagued them in the first half against at the Etihad Stadium on 18 October.

Sky Sports studio in shock over Beto miss for Everton

Everton boss David Moyes was looking for a first win in 18 matches against City, and his side had a glorious chance to take the lead.

In the 13th minute of the contest, Beto was put in by Iliman Ndiaye, but he could not convert from close range.

Paul Merson, who was covering the clash, screamed out “oh no” as the Guinea-Bissau forward failed to hit the back of the net with his effort.

The rest of the Sky Sports studio were stunned by the miss, and all said the same, ignoring their games to see the replays, before Merson continued.

He said: “Should be 1-0 to Everton, Ake has given the ball away three times so far.

“Gives is straight to Ndiaye, Ndiaye attacks the box, plays it across the six-yard box, Beto is coming in, he is at a stretch but he is give yards out, he gets contact to it, and puts it horribly, horribly wide.”

Moyes needs Beto to be scoring those chances

Beto needs to be putting chances like that away, especially against the quality of opposition that the Toffees were facing on this occasion.

The strikers have been an issue all season for the Blues, and Moyes needs one of them to step up and take the role for themselves.

He cannot be missing from close range, in such a hard match, otherwise Barry will surely get his chance to lead the line.

Merson and the studio’s reaction will resonate with Toffees supporters everywhere, as it was a shocking miss from the 27-year-old.

If Everton are to continue their charge towards European qualification, they need their number nine options to be putting easy chances away, and right now, they cannot seem to do that.
