Alan Shearer stunned by what Gabby Logan showed him on MOTD after Everton defeat vs Man City – ‘almost perfect’
Manchester City’s clinical nature was the difference against Everton on Saturday.
Everton were beaten 2-0 by Man City at the Etihad Stadium, with Erling Haaland’s brace against the Toffees proving the difference maker.
David Moyes may have been aggrieved Bernardo Silva was not pinged for handball, while Beto missed a great chance for Everton in the first half.
Ultimately, though, it was the brilliance of Haaland that separated the two teams as Everton headed back to Merseyside without anything to show for their efforts.

Alan Shearer raves over Erling Haaland after Everton loss vs Manchester City
In the post-match discussion about the game on Match of the Day, Gabby Logan was speaking as a graphic was shown comparing Haaland’s start to the season against Bayern Munich ace Harry Kane and Real Madrid superstar Kylian Mbappe for club and country this season.
It was shown that Haaland has 23 goals and three assists from 13 games and 1080 minutes, with a minutes-to-goal ratio of 47, compared to 22 and 17 goals for Kane and Mbappe respectively.
Alan Shearer remains astounded by Haaland’s record and thinks of the three players, he is the one is especially in awe of on current form.

The Newcastle United legend said: “You’re talking about three amazing players there, but for me, if you’re building from scratch what you want as the ideal centre-forward, look at Haaland.
“He’s got obviously the goals, the pace, the movement, he’s good in the air, he doesn’t mind being roughed up. It doesn’t bother him if he doesn’t have five or six touches within a minute or he has one touch per half, so long as that one touch is a goal.
“So, for me, he’s almost perfect, he really is. He’s a fantastic talent, I love watching him and we’re lucky to have him in our league and Man City have obviously got an incredible player on their hands.”
What did David Moyes say about Erling Haaland after Everton loss vs Manchester City?
Everton competed well against a star-studded City side but were ultimately undone by the brilliance of Haaland’s centre-forward play.
Speaking to Match of the Day after the game, Toffees boss David Moyes praised the Norway star but felt there were elements that Everton could have done better to defend against him.
- Everton only had one shot on target to Man City’s seven at the Etihad.
- Their xG was significantly lower at 0.81 to City’s 2.38.
- Jordan Pickford made five saves to Gianluigi Donnarumma’s one.
He said: “They’ve got a number nine who knows how to find the back of the net. One occasion where just as we were changing over from attacking to defensive phase we got caught up with a pass. It was a terrific ball by Nico O’Reilly for Haaland to score but if you give that level opportunities you give them the chance to score.
“A bit of a scruffy goal the second one. He scuffs it through James’ [Tarkowski] legs, they won’t be bothered about that but not a great finish from our point of view. That puts us in danger at 2-0 but I was impressed with how well we defended after that because they had more chances.”
For Everton, it was a reminder that while there has been much progress since Moyes returned to the club, it remains a work in progress to really muscle in on the top teams in the Premier League.
