Alan Myers shares January transfer priority David Moyes has at Everton

David Moyes will be hoping Dan Friedkin invests some more money at Everton in the winter transfer window.

The Toffees lost to Manchester City in the Premier League on 18 October, dropping to 12th in the table.

After pulling off an impressive deal by signing Jack Grealish on loan from the Sky Blues, fans in L4 expect the Scottish manager to achieve something special this season.

Things could’ve been different against Man City as Beto missed the chance to give Moyes’ side the lead early in the game, and that could be a major issue for them in the coming months.

Everton must sign new striker in January

A new centre-forward should be on the Toffees’ recruitment agenda in January, Alan Myers says.

The former Sky Sports reporter believes that the Blues need a new number nine soon, whether that be someone who can start for them or provide cover off the bench.

Thierno Barry has struggled at the Hill Dickinson Stadium so far, with the French youngster arguably needing time to settle in the Premier League.

Myers wrote in Everton.News on 20 October: “One thing is for sure, the need for another front man, whether that be a 20 goals a season man – which are scarce in January windows — or an alternative option from the bench, it’s clear the recruitment team will need to do something in the transfer market.”

Moyes lost Dominc Calvert-Lewin for free in the summer, and Youssef Chermiti also joined Rangers on transfer deadline day, leaving the Merseyside outfit with a dearth of options up front.

Without a number nine scoring the chances the likes of Jack Grealish and Iliman Ndiaye will eventually create, the Blues risk disappointment this season.

Ivan Toney emerges as option for David Moyes

Ivan Toney may be a good fit at the Hill Dickinson Stadium considering his previous exploits in the Premier League.

The 29-year-old striker has been left out of the recent England squads, and that may be down to the fact he’s playing in the Roshn Saudi League.

While the quality of opposition the Al-Ahli centre-forward faces currently isn’t the best, his goalscoring record isn’t something to scoff at.

Toney proved during his time at Brentford that he was a reliable goalscorer and it wouldn’t be surprising to see him back in the UK sooner rather than later to reignite his World Cup hopes.
