Everything Sean Dyche said about Nottingham Forest when in charge of Everton

Sean Dyche looks like he may have found his next job since being sacked by Everton.

Everton sacked Dyche in January 2025 as the Toffees saw David Moyes as the man to take them forward long-term.

While on Merseyside, Dyche came under fire for many different reasons, whether that be tactics or his attitude to the job.

Since leaving Everton, Dyche has been surprisingly linked with Manchester United to take over Ruben Amorim.

However, according to Sky Sports, the former Everton boss has reached a verbal agreement to become the new head coach of Nottingham Forest.

Sean Dyche sympathised with Nottingham Forest over points deduction

During the 2023-24 season, Everton battled a points deduction challenge after they were hit with an eight-point docking after several lengthy legal disputes over Profit and Sustainability Rules.

Nottingham Forest were also in trouble with breaching PSR in the same year, as despite being a direct rival with Everton for relegation, Dyche shared sympathy with the club for being in the same situation as his Toffees side.

“There’s no consistency. I don’t know the minutiae of our own, let alone theirs [Nottingham Forest].

“When you’re in that room, and the way they decide things, maybe there’s different reasons and I can only imagine there’s more depth to it,” as reported by The Independent.

In the same season, there was controversy in Everton’s game against Nottingham Forest, as the latter released a statement on VAR after a 2-0 defeat to the Toffees in April 2024.

Dyche was also in agreement with Forest’s stance on VAR, but perhaps felt his Blues side deserved the rub of the green, while speaking to Everton’s media team post-match.

“We’ve had our moments. We’ve had two penalties this season which is alarmingly low for the amount we should’ve had.

“There’s frustration around VAR from everyone this season. We’ve had our moments. I didn’t know that; it’s up to them. I can’t control what they do or think.”

Dyche could be a good fit at Nottingham Forest

Dyche helped Everton avoid relegation, and although that would be a daunting target for Nottingham Forest this season, he will be able to pick their squad back up.

Everton under Dyche were resolute and hard to beat, and let’s not forget that he didn’t have all of the tools to work with while at Goodison Park.

Evangelos Marinakis seems to spend heavily, and that could suit Dyche in his potential new role, but whether he will be able to get them challenging for Europe is a different question.
