Premier League announcement ahead of Man United match could spell bad news for Everton
The Premier League have confirmed the match officials appointments for Everton’s clash with Manchester United next Monday.
Everton beat Fulham 2-0 in their most recent match and will be looking to build on that upon their return to Premier League action on 24 November.
Man United are favourites to beat Everton at Old Trafford, however, after hitting a bit of positive form prior to the two-week break.
Everton will need all the help they can get, but the referee appointment for the clash in Manchester does not spell great news based on recent history.
Tony Harrington appointed referee for Man United vs Everton
As per the Premier League’s official website on Monday, Tony Harrington has been appointed referee for the clash at Old Trafford.
Nick Hopton and Craig Taylor will be assistants, meanwhile, and Anthony Taylor is fourth official. Paul Howard is on VAR duties and will be assisted by Sian Massey-Ellis.
| Everton when refereed by Tony Harrington | Season |
| Manchester City 2-0 Everton | 25-26 |
| Newcastle United 0-1 Everton | 24-25 |
| Everton 0-2 Nottingham Forest | 24-25 |
| Newcastle United 1-1 Everton | 23-24 |
| Brighton 1-1 Everton | 23-24 |
| Everton 1-0 Crystal Palace | 23-24 |
| Aston Villa 1-2 Everton | 23-24 |
| Newcastle United 1-0 Everton | 22-23 |
| Everton 2-0 Boreham Wood | 21-22 |
Everton have a disappointing record with Harrington as referee, most recently losing 2-0 to Manchester City a month ago.
Indeed, Everton have won just one of their six Premier League matches officiated by Harrington, with that being a 1-0 win at Newcastle United on the final day of last season.
Not only do Everton have a poor record under Harrington, they have also received a disproportionately high number of bookings under him.

Everton players booked more times than any other Premier League club under Harrington
As per Transfermarkt, Harrington has handed out 26 yellow cards to Everton players in nine matches across all competitions.
That is the most of any current Premier League side, while he has also given one penalty against the Toffees across those games.
Moyes will be hoping for a different outcome to Everton’s 2-0 loss to Man City when Harrington was last in the middle, of course, and the Toffees make this latest trip to Manchester in quietly confident spirits.
Let’s hope that disappointing return of wins under Harrington does not continue when club action finally resumes a week from now.
