‘What on earth’ – Andy Murray issues stunned reaction to Scott McTominay as Everton eye stunning deal
Everton were given more evidence for why they might want to go through with a Scott McTominay signing as the midfielder stunned onlookers on Tuesday night.
The Napoli star has gone from strength to strength since leaving Man United two summers ago, picking up the Serie A Most Valuable Player award last term while winning the Scudetto under Antonio Conte.
He was at it again on international duty as he pulled out a stunning overhead kick in just the third minute to put Scotland ahead in their vital World Cup qualifier against Denmark.
McTominay was an Everton target before he left Old Trafford but a move never came about.
Now, Everton are reportedly lining up a bid to sign McTominay back from Italy in a deal worth north of £60 million.
Andy Murray can’t believe what Scott McTominay did
Former British number one tennis star Sir Andy Murray was among the Scots blown away by what they had seen during the international break.
In the opening minutes at Hampden Park the 28-year-old McTominay rose acrobatically in the Danish box to fire inside the far post from a Ben Gannon-Doak cross off the right flank.
Reacting immediately on Twitter after the goal the three-time Grand Slam winner and double-Olympic champion wrote: “What on earth was that,” followed by five heart-eyes emojis, “mctominay you wee dancer!”

The Scots were pegged back in the second half, with another Man United exile to Naples Rasmus Hojlund equalising from the penalty spot.
Lawrence Shankland put the hosts back ahead but current United man Patrick Dorgu again quickly levelled, but Kieran Tierney and Kenny McLean scored in a dramatic stoppage-time to send them to their first World Cup since 1998.

McTominay a game-changer if Moyes can get his hands on him
McTominay has more than proven himself since being deemed surplus to requirements at Man United, where he often chipped in with important goals but was never seen as much more than a solid operator as a deep-lying option.
But in Italy he has developed into more of a throwback to ex-Everton boss Frank Lampard as a player and netted 12 Serie A goals last term.
| Club | Appearances | Goals | Assists |
| Man United (2017-24) | 255 | 29 | 8 |
| Napoli (2024-current) | 50 | 17 | 7 |
How realistic it is that David Moyes could get his hands on a player he also liked as West Ham boss remains to be seen, but The Friedkin Group‘s Roundhouse Capital Holdings Ltd just announced over £100m in new capital for Everton.
McTominay has four goals across the league and the Champions League this season but his side haven’t been at quite the same standard, so the Italians may be ready to make a hefty profit on him after a hugely-successful short stay.
After 178 Premier League appearances at United he shouldn’t take any time to adapt, and boosted by his development in Europe he could prove to be a game-changer under Moyes if a deal were to come about.
