‘David Moyes will have wanted Idrissa Gueye fight to happen despite nightmare Everton red card’

Everton were central to massive controversy when Idrissa Gueye was sent off against Manchester United.

Gueye saw red for Everton against Man United after raising his hand to Michael Keane after a loose pass caused a confrontation between the pair.

Everton went on to beat Man United 1-0 as a Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall strike was enough to seal three points at Old Trafford.

The travelling supporters were baffled to see their midfielder sent off, but his Everton teammates still applauded Gueye for his apology at full-time.

David Moyes shared his perspective after the win in MR5, expressing a positive attitude toward Gueye’s antics against the Red Devils.

David Moyes happy with Idrissa Gueye actions vs Manchester United

Everton players cleared up Gueye and Keane’s situation on Thursday with a series of comedic social media posts of the duo play-fighting at Finch Farm.

That has helped end any rumours of existing feuds at the Hill Dickinson Stadium, not that Moyes was one for letting that happen at Old Trafford.

The Scot was quick to share his feelings on the red card, suggesting that he liked what he saw from his players.

Obviously, the red card was less than ideal, but it reflected the attitude he wants from his players.

That has been echoed by Paul Merson as he has backed Everton to beat Newcastle United 2-1, with the red card moment set to bring the Toffees closer together.

Paul Merson

Writing for Sportskeeda, he said: “Everton were outstanding against Manchester United. I know United produced a rotten display, but you have to tip your hat to Everton for scoring with 10 men and securing that win away from home.

David Moyes won’t be too worried about the Idrissa Gueye incident with Michael Keane, which led to the midfielder’s red card. As a manager, you secretly want that fight between players.

When I was playing, these fights used to happen in every training session. If I were a manager, I wouldn’t mind my players pushing each other like that.

Watching the United game back, it is quite unbelievable that two teammates would clash and come to blows in such a fashion.

It is unclear how far the situation would have escalated if it weren’t for the likes of Jordan Pickford and Iliman Ndiaye.

Moyes said he was pleased to see the competitive nature between the two, but many questioned whether the Scot was being entirely truthful.

Merson’s backing will help answer any questions, as a fellow professional has fully agreed with the Everton boss.
