Chris Sutton shares Thierno Barry verdict as prediction made for Everton vs Newcastle

Thierno Barry is yet to score for Everton since arriving in the summer.

Everton host Newcastle this weekend, in an encounter that will be the first of its kind for three years in small ways.

This is the first time that the Toffees have faced off against the Magpies when above them in the Premier League table since 2022, when they fell to a 3-1 defeat.

David Moyes will be looking to build on Everton’s 1-0 win away to Man United, though Chris Sutton thinks that Newcastle will have something to say on that.

Striker concerns remain present at Everton

Barry actually played well for Everton at Old Trafford, but his search for his first goal in the famous blue is still ongoing.

Via Sofascore, Barry won 14 aerial duels against the Red Devils and completed 15 of his 25 passes, providing his side with an out-ball when required.

However, when sharing his predictions for the upcoming clash with Newcastle, Sutton once again highlighted the lack of threat posed by Everton’s striker options.

Via BBC Sport, he said: “Everton have got a bit about them going forward, and they are great to watch, but they are just missing a goalscorer.

“Thierno Barry actually did all right. He didn’t look like he was going to score, but, in that scenario, with 10 men, he worked so hard and was getting on the end of a lot of balls up to him.

“Whether it is Barry or Beto who starts against Newcastle, they are both due a goal – Beto has not found the net since August, while Barry has not scored this season.

“[Newcastle] will have their moments against Everton, but I am not looking at this game and thinking they will go there and win. Instead, I am going to sit on the fence.

David Moyes to face double dilemma vs Newcastle

Moyes hasn’t changed his side up too much this season, though, on Saturday, he will be forced into at least two changes.

Idrissa Gueye’s sending off against Man United will see him serve a three-match suspension, while Seramus Coleman’s injury will force a change at the back.

It’s likely that Tim Iroegbunam replaces Gueye, with Jake O’Brien coming back into the team at right-back, despite arguably being better placed as a centre-back.

Everton aren’t blessed with too many midfield options, though if Iroegbunam is to get the nod, it will be a real chance for him to stake a claim for his place in the side in the long run.
