Newcastle inflict two-year first on Everton as David Moyes left with questions to answer
Everton fell to a 4-1 defeat at home to Newcastle on Saturday.
Everton’s 1-0 win away to Man United seemed as though it was going to be a platform for them to build on, but a week later, those hopes have vanished.
Nick Woltemade was on the scoresheet as Newcastle coasted to a 4-1 victory against Everton, despite the fact that the Magpies hadn’t won away in the Premier League before their trip to the Hill Dickinson Stadium.
However, the day has been made worse by the fact that Newcastle have become the first team to inflict such a heavy defeat on the Toffees since 2023, when they did it again themselves.

Everton tend not to concede many at home
The Toffees had conceded just five goals at home this season, with that tally now almost doubled after Newcastle ran riot in Merseyside.
Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall’s goal proved to be nothing other than a consolation, while Thierno Barry’s wait for his first goal at Everton goes on after he had an effort ruled out by VAR for handball.
However, this was the first time that Everton have conceded four or more goals at home in the Premier League since April 2023, when Newcastle came to Goodison Park.
Callum Wilson scored twice on that day for the Magpies, with Joelinton and Jacob Murphy also getting on the score sheet.
Lots of questions will be asked about the latest defeat, and Moyes will have to come up with the answers.
Everton looked a shadow of themselves vs Newcastle
Newcastle inflicted just a second home defeat on Everton, though the difference in performance from their triumph against Man United was concerning.
Against the Red Devils, the Toffees won second balls, minimised their attacking threat, and played as a team, which was not the case on Saturday, as demonstrated by the below Sofascore graphic.

Everton looked disjointed, lost for ideas, and quite often leggy whenever Newcastle were in possession of the ball.
A trip to Bournemouth is up next for Moyes’ side, and after the Cherries just fell to a defeat away to Sunderland, they should be optimistic about returning to winning ways.
