All 55 words Joe Hart said about Everton after defeat vs Newcastle on Match of the Day

Everton were shellshocked by Newcastle’s performance in their 4-1 defeat at the Hill Dickinson Stadium on Saturday.

That’s according to Joe Hart, who was disappointed by David Moyes‘ side this weekend, especially after Everton beat Manchester United at Old Trafford on Monday night.

Malick Thiaw scored twice while Lewis Miley and Nick Woltemade were also on the scoresheet for the Magpies within the opening hour of the game.

Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall scored a 70th-minute consolation goal as Everton conceded four goals at home for the first time in two years.

Joe Hart: Newcastle surprise Everton after Marseille defeat

Eddie Howe‘s men won for the first time on the road in the Premier League this season when they brushed aside Everton on Merseyside.

Ex-England goalkeeper Hart believes that the Toffees were completely taken aback by how well the Tynesiders performed, especially after they lost 2-1 to Marseille in the Champions League on Tuesday night.

It felt like euphoria on Monday night, it was an incredible result,” said Hart on Match of the Day.

They probably would have expected to have done a lot better this afternoon but as Danny [Murphy] said there, Newcastle were out of the blocks and shocked them.

I don’t think the team were ready, especially after watching them, probably, in midweek against Marseille.

According to stats by Sofascore, Everton had almost as much of the ball and almost as many shots at goal as Newcastle did on Saturday evening.

However, there was a clear difference with cutting edge as the Magpies had five big chances to score and registered an xG of 1.91.

Everton, meanwhile, only had one big chance and scored an xG of 0.99.

Everton’s state of play after humbling vs Newcastle

It’s pretty much been par for the course for Everton in the Premier League this season.

They’re 14th, level on points with Tottenham, Newcastle, Manchester United and Liverpool, and there’s a healthy seven-point gap between them and the relegation zone.

With Moyes in charge, there’s little chance that the Blues will have to worry about dropping into the Championship, but it’s no doubt nice for Evertonians to see the clear difference in their stature now that the Scot is back on Merseyside.

The Toffees have five wins, three draws and five defeats from their first 13 games, but that loss against Newcastle was a big one, and their biggest yet at the Hill Dickinson Stadium since moving homes in the summer.

Next up for Moyes’ men is a trip to Bournemouth on Tuesday night before they welcome Sean Dyche back to Merseyside when Nottingham Forest travel to the Hill Dickinson Stadium next Saturday.
