Thierno Barry destined to fail at Everton as abysmal Premier League stat emerges

Thierno Barry has had a difficult start to life at Everton and the centre-forward is continuing to adapt to Premier League football.

Barry made a summer move from Villarreal to the Toffees for a fee of around £27million, and the signing was met with excitement and intrigue.

The 23-year-old has worked hard in the early part of his Everton career, but is yet to really kick into gear and show the Hill Dickinson faithful exactly what he can do.

On Saturday, Barry played 87 minutes as Everton were beaten 4-1 by Newcastle United, and to make matters worse, the Frenchman had a goal chalked off by VAR.

Everton have a real Thierno Barry problem

Barry was praised for his performance in Everton’s 1-0 win at Manchester United last week, and the striker worked incredibly hard to help his team secure all three points with just ten men.

However, after seeing his goal disallowed during the defeat to Newcastle, the former Villarreal man has still failed to find the back of the net since his summer transfer.

Even more worryingly for the Toffees, Barry has still not had a single shot on target in the Premier League this season.

The young forward has now played 551 minutes of top-flight football under David Moyes without testing the opposition goalkeeper once.

Barry can work as hard as he likes, and at the moment his effort levels are winning over Everton supporters, but he has no chance of succeeding on Merseyside if he doesn’t start hitting the target, let alone grabbing some goals.

David Moyes still backing Thierno Barry

Off the back of their disappointing defeat to Newcastle, Everton travel to Bournemouth on Tuesday, as they look to get back to winning ways.

Ahead of the game, Moyes backed his misfiring striker to come good and reiterated that he is happy with Barry’s overall performance levels.

Speaking in his pre-match press conference (BBC Sport), the Scottish manager said: “We need him to come up with goals, that is part of the job if you are a number nine. But we are happy with the way he is playing at the moment. He is certainly beginning to get used to the Premier League and Everton.”

It’s clear that Moyes will continue to trust Barry, at least for the time being, and give him the chance to find his feet in front of goal.

However, if the Frenchman’s barren streak continues, then it won’t be long before Everton fans will be calling for change.
