Jack Grealish hailed by Alan Shearer off the pitch at Everton – ‘you’ve got to admire him’

Everton bounced back from their 4-1 defeat to Newcastle United with a battling 1-0 victory over Bournemouth on Tuesday night.

Jack Grealish scored the winner against Bournemouth late into the second half to move Everton up to ninth in the Premier League table.

It was only the 30-year-old’s second league goal for the club since sealing a loan switch from Manchester City in the summer, but the England international is enjoying his football at the Hill Dickinson Stadium.

Grealish sent a message after Everton’s win over Bournemouth, showcasing his delight to play under David Moyes, and Alan Shearer has also praised the winger after his latest performance.

Alan Shearer praises Jack Grealish for joining Everton

In recent years at the Etihad Stadium, Grealish has fallen down the pecking order under Pep Guardiola, and he knew opportunities to feature in 2025/26 would be limited.

That is why Grealish joined Everton on loan, despite the Toffees not offering the attraction of European football, with Shearer sharing his admiration towards that decision.

“You’ve got to admire him for doing what he’s done in terms of not accepting to sit around on the bench and not play and go out and look for a team. And he’s found Everton. He’s found a really good manager who will get the best out of him,” the Newcastle legend said on the Rest Is Football podcast.

“So you’ve got to respect him. And I admire him for doing that. I don’t know, Jack, I would love to see him in there because I do like his play.”

Everton have the option to sign Grealish for £50million once his loan ends in the summer. That is a heavy price to pay for someone who turns 31 in September 2026, but if Moyes can mastermind a European finish, he may be given the green light to capture the exciting winger.

David Moyes shares his wish for Grealish

Grealish scored the winner with his deflected strike at the Vitality Stadium, but given his qualities and ambitions of making the 2026 World Cup squad, Moyes has urged him to produce more goal involvements.

13 appearances
2 goals
4 assists
1.2 shots per game
86% pass completion
4.7 balls recovered per game

“The fans love Jack, they certainly do. He is certainly a top player and has continued to show it,” Moyes said in his post-match press conference.

“I want him to get more goals, he has got a goal tonight, I don’t know if it will go down as an own goal, I hope not. I want him to score more, make more assists, but he has made a big difference, and he is loved by everybody.”

Arguably, what the Scotsman said about the fleet-footed winger points towards him potentially joining permanently, and that would be music to Everton supporters’ ears.
