Thierno Barry gets what he deserves as BBC journalist shares what Everton fans did vs Nottingham Forest

Thierno Barry finally got something to show for his efforts at Everton on Saturday.

Everton secured a 3-0 victory against Nottingham Forest on Saturday, meaning that the Toffees have now won four of their last five.

An own goal from Nikola Milenkovic opened the scoring for Everton, with goals from Barry and Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall sealing all three points for the Toffees against Sean Dyche’s side.

It was Barry’s first goal for Everton since arriving in the summer, and the reception he got from the home support was more than warranted.

Despite his lack of goals, Barry has never shied away from the challenge at Everton, and more often than not, he has proved his worth in other ways.

On Saturday, he did both, with his goal almost certainly set to lift a huge weight off his shoulders at the Hill Dickinson Stadium.

Beto’s failure to perform has often led to even more pressure on the Frenchman, and the hope will be that he can deliver consistently going forward.

After his goal, David Moyes opted to withdraw Barry, with BBC Sport journalist Gary Rose detailing the response from the Toffees’ faithful.

“Everton fans are on their feet to applaud Thierno Barry off the pitch,” Rose said.

“Despite failing to score until today, he is a hugely popular player here for his work rate, and the hope will be that he can now kick on and score plenty more.

What has David Moyes said previously about Thierno Barry?

Despite his struggles in front of goal, Moyes has continued to back Barry, and rightfully so.

While strikers are judged on goals, Barry has offered a hell of a lot to this Everton side, and they would be far worse off without his influence, and Moyes has already recognised that this season.

After Everton’s 2-0 win over Fulham in November, Moyes said: “I thought the crowd were brilliant for Barry today, but I think he gave them something to shout about and believe in and was rightly applauded coming off.

“We need those boys to keep their confidence up, and when you are not scoring as a centre-forward, it’s not an easy thing to do.

“Sometimes people don’t take us seriously when we say it takes time to get adjusted. Thierno has to get used to the physicality of being a centre-forward in the Premier League, what you are going to have to come up against.
