Everton push to sign Artem Dovbyk in January as Roma swap transfer now on cards
Roma striker Artem Dovbyk could be the answer to all of Everton’s current issues in January.
Everton are currently preparing for a clash with Nottingham Forest on Tuesday night, in what is their final game of 2025.
However, the New Year is just hours away, and with that will come the opening of the latest January transfer window.
Everton are expected to be busy in January, with David Moyes said to be targeting several deals.

Everton make Artem Dovbyk feelings clear
One area of key need for Everton is in attack, and more specifically, at the striker position.
Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall and Iliman Ndiaye are the Toffees’ two top scorers, with the former being injured and the latter currently away at AFCON, painting a clear picture as to how badly Moyes needs more help in the final third.
Roma’s Dovbyk has been linked with a move to Everton in January, with the 28-year-old Ukraine international only just returning from an injury issue that’s kept him out since early November.
And, in a fresh update from Gianluca Di Marzio, Everton are understood to be pushing heavily for the centre-forward this winter.
However, Di Marzio states that Dovbyk would prefer to remain in Italy, with Como, Napoli and AC Milan all credited as holding an interest in his services too after his latest injury.
It’s reported that a swap deal involving Lorenzo Lucca, who is on loan with Napoli, and Dovbyk could be agreed, whilst Milan would find a move tough, having signed West Ham striker Niclas Fullkrug.
Everton shouldn’t be so keen to strike Dovbyk deal
Everton must complete pragmatic business in January, as under the second stewardship of Moyes and their move to the Hill Dickinson Stadium, the Toffees appear to be returning to Premier League competitiveness once again.
However, their recruitment has been very hit and miss for some time now, and one of those that very much comes under the latter is Beto.
The 27-year-old striker was signed from Udinese, and like Dovbyk, had scored a respectable number of goals at Serie A level.
- Beto scored 21 goals in 62 Serie A appearances for Udinese
- Dovbyk has scored 14 in 43 Serie A games for Roma
- Dovbyk did score 24 goals and provide 10 assists in 39 appearances for Girona in 2023-24
However, in the two-and-a-half years he’s been on Merseyside now, Beto has just 17 goals in 91 appearances, with just one Premier League goal in 18 games so far this season.
Concerningly, both Beto and Dovbyk share very similar goal production records in Italian football, and whilst that absolutely doesn’t mean Dovbyk wouldn’t find success if he signs for Everton, it should be enough to perhaps pump the brakes on their enthusiasm slightly.
Dovbyk scored 12 goals in 32 Serie A games for Roma last season, and has just two in 11 so far this term, and that sort of production doesn’t jump off the page, nor suggest he’d be a huge upgrade on what they currently have in the team.
