Shay Given makes bizarre Hill Dickinson claim on MOTD after Everton defeat vs Brentford

Everton suffered yet another Hill Dickinson Stadium defeat as they lost to Brentford on Sunday.

Brentford secured a 4-2 win against Everton in an excellent showcase of goalscoring form from Igor Thiago for the away side.

Supporters inside the Hill Dickinson were baffled to see Thiago hug Beto after his hattrick strike against Everton, only adding further frustration to the afternoon.

There were many poor performances in blue, with Tyler Dibling hooked early against Brentford being just one of those to let David Moyes down in L4.

The Scot was far from impressed with yet another home defeat for the Toffees, something which Shay Given has picked up on.

Shay Given blames Hill Dickinson for Everton form

After such a perfect win away to Nottingham Forest last time out, there were high expectations coming into a clash with Keith Andrews’ side.

There were many poor performances in a return to L4, with Thiago allowed to rack up chances outside of his three goals on the day.

The Brazilian’s heroics sent the Blues on their way to a fourth defeat of the season at the Hill Dickinson Stadium and their second in as many games.

That is a far cry from their start to life on Bramley-Moore Dock, where four games saw eight points flood in.

Former Manchester City and Aston Villa keeper Given has suggested that the new ground could be having a negative impact on Everton’s form.

Speaking via Match of the Day, the Irishman made the claim that away sides are benefitting more from outings in L4.

He said: “Moyes said they’re a bit short in areas and again, maybe he’ll be looking at the window to try and strengthen. The graph speaks for itself.

The Hill Dickinson is a brand new stadium, and sometimes the opposition look like they like playing there more than the home team. It happens, but David Moyes will want to put that right, he’s a top manager and I’m sure he’ll get it right.

Everton must rid Hill Dickinson hoo-doo after Brentford defeat

West Ham are a current example of just how badly a move to a big, new, flashy stadium can go.

The Irons look destined for relegation this season and have been on a crash course, really, ever since their move to the Olympic Park.

Moyes was able to delay proceedings in East London, but now a spot in the Championship looks likely, and the ground move is arguably to blame.

Everton can’t allow the Hill Dickinson to send them on a similar path, so turning form around has to be a priority for the Blues across the second half of the season.

A home clash against Wolves awaits, something which could be the ideal fixture to get back to winning ways on Merseyside.
